Class Descriptions
PAGE TOP • GENERAL INFO
Beginning Quiltmaking - This class is designed for beginners and is a comprehensive class which covers common quilting terminology, our preferred methods for making quilts, fabric selection and preparation, accurate rotary cutting, accurate sewing, block construction, top design and construction and border design and construction. Each session will begin with a sharing of information followed by work time for students to work on their projects. Some sewing will also be required outside of class time, and will be explained at the conclusion of each class. Completion of each step in succession will ensure a completed project by the end of the class. Each session will last approximately 5 hours.
NEW! Bread and Butter Table Runner - If you enjoyed the “Hunters Star” class, you’ll enjoy this one too. This project uses another ruler designed by Debbie Tucker which ensures precision piecing of the blocks. Come join us for a day of sewing and go home with a table runner for you or a gift for someone else to enjoy. Skill level is intermediate. The duration for this class is planned for all day.
Christmas Stocking - Make a beautiful Christmas stocking during this class. Once you learn how to make one, you will want to make more for family and friends. This project uses log cabin foundation pieced blocks to make the stocking that you can then embellish with lace, buttons or anything else, as you wish. It was originally designed as a Victorian style project, but you may use any style fabrics that you prefer. This has been one of our personal favorites for many years and was a favorite class last year, so we are offering it again. By scheduling this as a full-day class, you can easily go home with a completed project. Don’t miss this one. All skill levels.
5 Easy Pieces - In this class you will learn the techniques to complete a quilt-as-you-go project with an added twist. (See sample.) Make a beautiful, eye-catching wall hanging using the 5 Easy Pieces pattern and a fun specialty ruler. This intermediate level class lasts approximately 5 hours.
Introduction to Machine Quilting - Jo Lynn’s many years of experience and her open way of sharing tips and techniques makes this class a favorite for those who want to quilt their own projects. Learn the basics of several types of machine quilting, including free-motion, stitch in the ditch, quilting with templates and decorative quilting. During class, Jo Lynn will show you how to work on small pieces to practice the different types of quilting. Continue practicing after the class until you are comfortable with the various techniques and then pull out some of those quilt tops and turn them into finished quilts. You have to be able to drop the feed dogs on your machine or have a cover plate for free motion quilting. In order for this class to be useful, you must have a machine that’s in good working order and have a working knowledge of quilt construction and quilting terminology. Class time is approximately 3 hours.
NEW! 9-Patch Pizzazz – Nothing could be easier than making a 9-patch block. To complete this project, combine a beautiful focus fabric, 9-patch units and sashing and the result is a stunning quilt top. “Fast, fun and finished in a day” accurately describes this and the other 5 projects in the book from which we planned this class. This class is suited to any quilter who has experience with rotary cutting and simple block construction. Class duration is approximately 6 hours.
NEW! Rangeley Wall Quilt – This intermediate level class is great fun! Once you’ve learned how to make these stars, the options are endless for other projects. Deb’s tools and techniques make this difficult looking project simple to construct. This class is scheduled for 2 6-hour sessions. We’ll have a sample soon, but in the meantime, the pattern shows what a beautiful wall hanging you will have after completing this class.
NEW! Spotlight – This class is great for making a quilt to “spotlight” a favorite print that you don’t want to cut into small pieces. This is another one that goes together fast. At the end of the class, you’ll know how to accurately cut a panel-sized unit and then frame it with pieced units and accent pieces and have a stunning quilt top ready to be quilted. This class is suited to beginners who want to try a new project or anyone who would just like to do a fast and fun project.
Restyled Shirts – Based on a pattern, this class teaches you to change a basic shirt into a wonderfully fun and comfortable blouse or over-shirt perfect for wearing over a shell during warmer months or a turtleneck during our cooler months. You will learn how to accurately modify a shirt for a custom style --- either for a longer look or a short-waisted style. Wear this and you’re bound to get compliments. This class lasts approximately 4 ½ hours and is suitable for all levels. Sample at shop (or being worn by one of us).
NEW! Tee-Shirt Quilts – Tee-shirt quilts are a great way to memorialize events or a special time in someone’s life – sports teams, school years or a favorite activity. This class will teach you how to prepare quilt block pieces from tee-shirts, design or choose a quilt top using the prepared pieces and allow you to work on the quilt. Class duration is approximately 4 hours on each of two days.
